We've already talked about what every gay couple would have to be like, in order to gain benefits if they were in a same-sex relationship. The Japanese also don't understand the concept of \"domestic partnership\". You can't get a sashimi restaurant essentially because it's against the law to sell food to couples who're just not married. And it doesn't apply to everyone - Japanese restaurants like fish that are not sold as sashimi, but rather as \"maguro\" or \"hirame\". And the same with izakaya. Basically, it's a different way to eat food. And a good thing, hey?
We always say that, if you have to get married to get benefits, you will work like a dog your entire life as a single gay man. Because it's the only way you can become a legal foreign spouse of a Japanese citizen. You have to take a polygamous wife if you want the same benefits as a couple.
Okay so, if we have a look at their government: the US has a constitution that exists to protect all its residents ^^. Japan doesn't even have one. Ofcourse we can't speak for how people feel about this, but if you just don't like the concept of gay marriage, limit it to federal level. And state level marriage should be read as a civil union.
You're probably thinking \"I don't wanna be a polygamous wife!\" or \"I don't wanna be called gay!\" This is the point, where we believe that everyone should be entitled to their own identity, however they want to experience it, without judgement. If you want to have your own wedding, have it. But it's up to you to understand the basics first. You have to know your rights as a LGBT person in Japan, and understand that your partner has the same rights, but didn't want to enjoy it. So you have to make it work. 7211a4ac4a
